Scilly Organics has been a consortium partner in the XGain project, focussing on digital connectivity in rural areas. The expertise that we have brought is as a digitally conected farm on a small island, where we’re reliant on digital services provided through the mobile network.
The Isles of Scilly has 4G and 5G mobile connectivity ranging from excellent to non-existant, depending where you are. Therefore we’ve looked at all options available to people. There was also a clear need to improve Digital Literacy amongst the farming community, with many farmers not understanding the range of digital devices available to help them in their businesses.
By working with local farmers, growers, the Council, researchers and other local organisations, we have assessed ways of improving digital connectivity on the Islands, bring it all together in the Demonstration event we held in May 2025. This video explains much more about what we did…
